Candidates must live within the city limits of Washougal or in the case of the current vacancy, may live outside the city limits if within the City of Washougal Urban Growth Boundary.

The commission is a volunteer advisory body to City Council and makes recommendations to City Council related to land use ordinances and regulations. The Commission periodically reviews the City's Comprehensive Plan to ensure orderly and coordinated development within the city, as well as other tasks assigned by City Council.

Participation requires attendance at monthly meetings (second and fourth Tuesday evenings of each month) and may include occasional joint meetings with City Council.
